Caring For Antique Jewelry And Metals

Thursday, November 13th, 2008

Jewelry and other metals are an important part of most antique collections. Many pieces of jewelry have been handed down from generation to generation as family heirlooms, while others may have drawn attention at an auction or store window. Since a great deal of antiques contain some type of metal, it is important to learn proper care techniques.

Gold is one of the most common type of metal found in antique jewelry. A karat rating is used to determine the true gold count in a piece, which also affects its softness or hardness. Although softer gold tarnishes the easiest, both types are prone to scratches. Abrasive cleaners should never be used to polish gold, especially if it contains gems or stones of any kind. For at-home cleaning, using a baby toothbrush dipped in warm, soapy water is ideal.

14 I am the good shepherd and I know my own and my own know me, 15 just as the Father knows me and I know the Father, and I lay down my life for the sheep. 16 And I have other sheep which are not of this sheepfold, and it is necessary for me to bring those and they will hear my voice, and they shall become one flock, one shepherd. 17 For this the Father loves me because I lay down my life in order that I may take it again. 18 No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. Tips For Selecting A Ring That Fits Perfectly

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

There’s more to picking out a perfect ring than selecting a stunning style. Whether it’s diamonds, plain gold or something with even more sparkle, bling and pizzazz, that ring has to fit correctly and comfortably or the purchase will prove a bust.

Picking out a ring that fits right isn’t always easy. Even when a ring fits comfortably and snugly today, it could slide off the finger tomorrow, or worse get stuck on in warmer weather.
